Hello From Al Gore Boot Camp.
Friday, April 4th, 2008First of all, it’s been a while. Secondly, I promised that when I started to blog again on the new site that I would limit my personal musings and focus on green event tips. This will be an exception.
It’s been exactly a year since I launched the company and it’s been tremendous. I never imagined how fulfilling (and exhausting) this process would be. It struck me as fitting that I launched during a month that hosts earth day (now it’s really earth month) and exactly a year later in the same month, I am in Montreal attending training facilitated by none other than a person who has been a major inspiration for my transformation (so dramatic but bear with me), Al Gore. (I would be remiss not to mention the Tobster who is my Gore on the homefront - a tremendous source of strength and also an inspiration. And of course my parents, my sister……alright, enough, I know but dammit, it’s been an amazing year and I need to thank the people that have been there for me.)
Back to the point - I’m here with 230 other Canadians who will be trained in giving climate change presentations and participating in the movement to spread the word and help to facilitate change. I’m a mere cog - but an incredibly grateful one.
Although the weekend hasn’t officially started the vibe is already charged. (could be the drugs - I’m ridiculously ill with a nasty, nasty cold - terrible timing) or could be the fact that we are about to embark on three days of inspiration and hope. Have already run into friends and had breakfast with three of my favourite people in the world. Now I’m sitting in the hotel lobby watching new faces pour in and knowing that I will be making some incredible connections and learning so, so much. Which is really one of the most important and meaningful things that we can do - learn. (And laugh too, don’t forget to laugh.)
I won’t bore you with anymore sap and rambling but I just wanted to mark this milestone and say hey - thanks for reading this buddy. (However, if something majorly cool happens tomorrow, like I get to meet big Al - I may have to break the rule and blog again on something personal.) Until then, be well!
Emily
PS - after this weekend is done I will be available to give “An Inconvenient Truth” presentations. If you are interested in having me present to your group, please email me at emily at greeprintevents dot com
